Since the big responsive change, most of the templates on the site have become 'a lot of work' to change and update. This leaves you with just 4 responsive templates for download. Many of your members have already designed numerous sites using 'responsive'. What if we were to share on your site?

Perhaps you could have a rule of uploading 3 responsive designs to share in the pool and then sell them giving the designer a share in the sale. It would massively increase the amount of templates available, bring in many more members, encourage people to design cool sites, give some pocket money even to amateur designers.

The copyright of picture problem could be resolved by a rule that all pics must be marked, 'not for public use'. Or, a declaration of copyright ownership which would remove your liability. Much the same way a a photobank would do.

    A template for thought.

Thanks for the note! It's a good thought, something we've pondered before.

There are a few tough questions that we run into. One of the hardest parts is figuring out how to pay outside authors. Since our business model is based on a subscription (which gives you full access) how do you figure out what percentage you pay to authors? Is it based on downloads? We've tried this before long ago, and it got really ugly and complex. It's a little easier if you've got a themeforest style setup, where people buy individual products.

Perhaps the solution is some sort of internal market, where you can buy / sell the templates alone to eachother and we don't even take a cut. The market would be for members only anyways, so just having users pay for a membership would be enough for us. Then you could share / sell as needed. Just thinking out loud!

Always appreciate new ideas - thanks guys!
