Please let me have your feedback
Welcome to the new forum!
I'd love to give you some feedback on your site, however could you first post a link so that we could check it out please?
I'll take a stab at your feedback request! Thank you for being brave and putting it out there for us to look at.
I know that sometimes clients ask for certain elements, designs, etc. so I keep that in mind when reviewing sites for people. I like how the site is clean and easy to locate what you are looking for with the large buttons. Good work on implementing some of the fun widgets in there for this project! I really like how you showcase the different artists as well. I do want to mention that I'm concerned about the navigation from page-to-page since the main menu is hidden after going away from the Home page. The "V" that is used to indicate that it will bring down the menu isn't as prominent as some would probably need it to be. A suggestion would be to maybe add the words "Menu" to that icon or just let the menu be static on each page.
I also noticed that the contact page background/layout is the same as the shopping page, which is probably because you're using the ecommerce contact page instead of creating one in Muse. I think consistency in the basic layout is important, so maybe consider creating a contact page in Muse instead of using the shopping cart one. ??? Not necessary obviously, but just a design/flow thing.
One more thing and then I'll stop. LOL The home page loading seems to be slower than the others, so I'm not sure what could be causing that...large image? Also, I noticed that you cannot highlight the text on the home page, which usually means that the text isn't going to be SEO-friendly. Not sure if it's just my browser or what, but you might want to check into that.
Hopefully I helped you out!!!
Firstly, I would like to thank @Linda K for the response, glad to see our new forum is creating some good member discussions!
I would have to agree with a lot of what Linda said, I think that the site has a clear purpose; as soon as you land on the site you are told that this is for Pewter Art Academy. However, this raises the question, where are the products that this art academy produces? If you are doing this for a client then trust me, I know that obtaining assets can not always be the easiest thing in the world but I really feel like some good strong supporting images would do wonders to create a more relatable feel to the initial landing page and throughout the whole site. I personally would recommend having an image right at the top which acts as a header image, possible with some supporting text as well. This helps to draw people into your site and, more importantly, make them stay on it.
I think your site shows a good amount of skill, for example the fact that you have made your navigation appear after scrolling, however like Linda said, I feel like this could be confusing for some users especially if they want to quickly navigate to a page. You want to make site navigation as easy as possible for customers whilst browsing the page. In addition to this it can improve results for when web crawlers come across your site when search engines index your site.
In regards to the information displayed on screen, I feel like you have done a good job of not providing too much information, users don't like to be presented with walls of text so I feel as you have done really well in this area. There is also a clear and consistent theme throughout.
Turning my attention to the Gallery page, I love the implementation of the Softbox Gallery, it works really well and you display some great images in there. I think it would be really nice to see some of these images displayed throughout the site and not just on the gallery though. Last but not least your contact page, I think you've done really good here in presenting the information that is needed in a friendly, easy to read format.
Overall I think you've made a fantastic start to your site, there are areas for improvement but that's the nature of web development. I would love to see the progression of your site in the future!
Thank you for posting!
